Opened in 1991 Star City was more than just rides. It was an offshoot of the annual Toys and Gift Fair. This Christmas trade exhibition evolved under Fred Elizalde into a beloved amusement park. It rose from a humble carnival into a sprawling 35000 square meter complex.
For years Star City drew in over 15 million visitors annually. It housed more than 30 attractions. Imagine the Jungle Splash the Zyklon Loop roller coaster even Snow World. The largest permanent ice entertainment area in the Philippines. The Giant Star Wheel once claimed the title of tallest Ferris wheel. Its 32 air-conditioned gondolas offered breathtaking views of Manila Bay.
Tragedy struck in 2019. A devastating fire engulfed 80 percent of the main building. Many cherished rides were lost. Gabi ng Lagim Dungeon of Terror even the beloved Bump Car Smash. The park was forced to close.
Yet the spirit of Star City persevered. After extensive repairs and renovations Star City reopened in 2022. It still holds a special place in the hearts of Filipinos. It’s a testament to resilience. It’s a symbol of joy and fun.
Sadly the Elizalde family’s lease ends in 2026. The future of Star City remains uncertain. But for now the laughter of children and the excited chatter of families fills the air. The magic of Star City lives on. This incredible amusement park continues to spin its tale of fun. It’s a story that continues to unfold one ride at a time.
