The southern part Gabaa Kulhi is mainly muddy clay. It’s a haven for various wildlife including mud crabs and migratory birds. There’s also a lake Goni. Formed after the island merger Goni was once freshwater. The 2004 tsunami changed it. Now it’s home to Tilapia and wetland birds.
Funadhoo’s commitment to its people is evident in its healthcare. A health center was established in Lhaimagu in 1970. It moved to Funadhoo in 1971. Today it’s a well-equipped Atoll Hospital. It has a lab X-ray facilities and an operation theater. Specialized doctors serve the community.
Getting to Funadhoo is easier than ever. Since February 2020 Maldivian Airlines offers direct flights to Funadhoo Airport. Sea transport is also readily available. Speed ferries and cargo-passenger ferries connect Funadhoo to Malé and other islands.
