The Fernmeldeturm Ober-Olm isn’t just a landmark. It’s a vital communication hub. It stands proudly between Ober-Olm and Essenheim in Mainz-Bingen, broadcasting radio waves and facilitating microwave communication. Originally built in 1966 for the Deutsche Bundespost, the Fernmeldeturm Ober-Olm started as a 70.35-meter tall type tower. Its concrete shaft reaching towards the sky. Then, in 1990, it received a significant upgrade, boosting its height to an impressive 108.35 meters. From its perch on the highest point of the area, known as “Galgenbusch”, at 257.6 meters above sea level, the Fernmeldeturm Ober-Olm commands attention. It broadcasts RPR1 on 100.6 MHz, serving the Rhein-Main region with its powerful 20 kW signal. Also, it transmits bigFM on 104.5 MHz across Rheinland-Pfalz with the same strength.
