Established in 1992 Polytech Lyon boasts a rich history. Professors Gerard Fontaine and Paul Bethoux spearheaded its creation. It began as the Institut des sciences et techniques de l’ingénieur de Lyon or ISTIL. The first graduating class celebrated in 1995. Polytech Lyon’s evolution continued. In 2009 it became L’École polytechnique universitaire de Lyon. A name change to Polytech Lyon followed in 2012.

Polytech Lyon stands proudly as one of 204 accredited engineering schools in France. It is the 14th school in the prestigious Polytech network. This makes it a significant player in French engineering education. The school is part of Claude Bernard University Lyon 1. These include Materials Mechanics Biomedical Engineering Computer Science Applied Mathematics and Modeling and Industrial Systems and Robotics. Students complete two substantial internships. One internship is as an Assistant Engineer. The other is as a fully-fledged Engineer.
