High above the Walgau valley stands Gurtisspitze. A simple summit cross marks its peak. From here the panorama is breathtaking. The Bodensee shimmers in the distance. The Rheintal valley stretches out below.

Gurtisspitze is a 1778-meter high mountain. It’s part of the Rhaetikon mountain range. More specifically it belongs to the Galina group. The mountain is easily recognizable. Hikers frequently visit Gurtisspitze. The trails are relatively well-maintained. A popular route starts from Gurtis. It goes via the Bazora-Alpe. This hike takes four to five hours. A longer more challenging tour includes other peaks. This tour takes eight to twelve hours. This one is for experienced hikers only. Trittsicherheit and Schwindelfreiheit are essential. Good footwear is a must.
