Standing before Schloss Amberg, you might be surprised to learn that its origins remain shrouded in mystery. No one knows for sure how this castle came to be. What we do know, however, is that in 1502, Emperor Maximilian I presented it to Countess Anna von Helfenstein. It was a grand gesture of affection, and it’s whispered among locals that it was perhaps a gift of love, not just of land. The Countess was his mistress, and it seems they had a son, but sadly, he died young.

After this, the ownership of Schloss Amberg passed through many hands, each leaving their own mark on the castle’s history. Then, in 1929, Fidel Scheyer and his wife fell in love with it at first sight. They bought the property, with its lovely hillside position boasting abundant land. The castle was a little worn by time, but Fidel saw its potential. He planted trees that still stand today and provide the fruit needed for their delightful wine and cider production.

Over the decades, the Scheyer family has lovingly restored the castle. It still holds its historical charm, but it has become more than just a family home. Today, Schloss Amberg is a vibrant events venue where culture, art, and culinary delights come together. The castle’s unique mix of old and new, the blending of the grandeur of its past with the vibrancy of the present, makes it a special place.

So, as you stand here gazing at Schloss Amberg, you’re not just looking at a building. You’re looking at the history of generations, the tapestry of love, loss, and resilience. The spirit of the past is alive in this place, and the memories linger in the air like the scent of wine and apples.
