In 1952, the third missionary home in Nicaragua opened right here in León. Six determined sisters arrived ready to spread their message. However, León was a Catholic stronghold. Finding a place to live proved difficult. Landlords feared renting to them amid false rumors.
The biggest challenge was the accusation that Jehovah’s Witnesses were communists funded by Russia. Imagine trying to share your beliefs while battling such a falsehood. Despite the hostility, they found a home and persevered. Five years later a small congregation of fifteen publishers was formed. By 1971, two units thrived with 120 active members in León.
In 1963, a generous contribution allowed the congregation to buy property. They built their own Kingdom Hall, a place of refuge and worship. A missionary home was added later, solidifying their presence.

One missionary recounts cleaning volcanic ash constantly. It piled on necks backs and even literature during Bible studies. Despite sweeping multiple times a day, the grit persisted. The dedication of the community shone brightly.
