The Staudengarten is part of the University of Konstanz’s Botanical Garden. Established in 1972 it’s been growing steadily since. The first greenhouses were completed in 1982. More were added in 1993. The outdoor garden was redesigned and replanted in 1997.

Notice the sections dedicated to regional plants. They showcase the area’s unique flora. Beach grass and reed plants are prominent here. There are apple trees. Extensive collections of wild herbs and weeds from fields and vineyards.

The greenhouses are a completely different world. They house tropical crops and weeds. You can even see plants demonstrating animal-plant interactions. A cold house holds over 460 species. These include Canary Island flora Mediterranean plants carnivorous plants and succulents.

The Staudengarten isn’t merely decorative. It plays a vital role in research. Scientists study crop stress and disease here. They use plants like Arabidopsis thaliana Coffea arabica Fragaria vesca and others. These scientific endeavors make the Staudengarten essential to the University’s work.

The garden staff also maintains two nature trails. Imagine the quiet walks among the plants. It’s a chance to reflect on the natural world. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty and biodiversity around you.
