Once upon a time butchers, grocers, and even ropemakers gathered where we stand today. This is the Rosgartenmuseum. It stands in the heart of Konstanz. It holds stories of this city and the Lake Constance region.

The building itself has a past. In the Middle Ages, it was known as “Zum Rosgarten”. It served as a guild house. Butchers, grocers, apothecaries, stove makers, and ropemakers all met here. Imagine them discussing their trades within these very walls.

Fast forward to 1870. Ludwig Leiner a Constance pharmacist and city councillor, founded the Rosgartenmuseum. He wanted to showcase the history of Konstanz. His extensive collection became the museum’s foundation. The Leiner Hall on the ground floor still displays his original collection.

Inside the Rosgartenmuseum, you will find a permanent exhibition. It covers the town’s and region’s history across different eras. You will see artifacts from the Middle Ages. You will also see art and cultural objects from Lake Constance. The Rosgartenmuseum even has exhibits about the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It tells about the prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps.

The Rosgartenmuseum is not just about the past. It also hosts changing themed exhibitions. There is always something new to discover here. The museum actively collects and displays artifacts related to the city’s history.

After exploring the exhibits, relax in the museum café. It is located in the historic extension and inner courtyard. Enjoy refreshments in a unique atmosphere. It is a perfect way to reflect on your journey through time.

The Rosgartenmuseum is open from Tuesday to Friday 10 AM to 6 PM. On Saturdays and Sundays, it is open from 10 AM to 5 PM.

The Rosgartenmuseum offers audio guides in German, English, and French. These guides provide more information about the exhibits. This makes your visit even more informative.

The Rosgartenmuseum is accessible to everyone. It has a flat ramp and a threshold-free entrance. There is also a toilet with wheelchair access.

The Rosgartenmuseum is more than just a museum. It is a place where history comes alive. It connects us to the people who lived here before. It is a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of Konstanz and Lake Constance. As you leave, consider the stories you have heard. Think about the people whose lives shaped this region. The Rosgartenmuseum preserves their legacy for generations to come.
