Hidden from the bustling city of Konstanz, lies Schloss Pflanzberg. It’s a place shrouded in history. Schloss Pflanzberg first appeared in records in 1596 as “Flantzberg”. It was leased to Constantin de Gall. He was the Vogt of the Konstanz Bishop in Gottlieben. Years passed. Then in 1695, Christoph Rudolf Wuerz, a soldier and field marshal, demolished the old structure. He built the core of what we see today: a grand Italian-style building. Schloss Pflanzberg’s story took another turn when Sebastian Anton von Reding zu Biberegg, the Thurgau Landschreiber, bought it in 1701. It was then elevated to a “Freisitz,” a privileged country estate. The ownership changed hands again around the mid-18th century, going to the Ruepplin family from Kefikon. From 1806 to 1856, the artistic Steiner family of Winterthur called Schloss Pflanzberg home. In 1917, entrepreneur Robert Victor Neher purchased the estate. He commissioned extensive renovations. He also had the accompanying park redesigned by Swiss landscape architect Fritz Klauser. Later, Johann Georg Stisser, founder of “Gemüsebau AG” (which later became “Biotta”), lived at Schloss Pflanzberg. Since 1950, a Zurich-based entrepreneurial family has owned and resided in Schloss Pflanzberg. More recently, in 1984-1985, the entire estate underwent a complete renovation. New additions graced the west side of the castle. Schloss Pflanzberg stands today as a testament to the passage of time and the influence of its various inhabitants.
