Kurhessen Therme has been around since 1983. Werner Wicker led its creation. The city sought a private investor. They needed someone to tap into a new medicinal spring. This was to maintain Bad Wilhelmshöhe’s “Bad” status. Old brine springs had dried up. Kassel lacked funds for new drilling. Wicker got land for a spa with saunas and therapy areas in return for successful drilling. Drilling started in 1978 and ended successfully in 1979 at 674 meters. Since then healing, warm and slightly salty water flows into the spa.

Inside and outside pools cover 1200 square meters. Water temperatures range from 31 to 37°C. You’ll find massage jets and bubble loungers. Hot tubs and waterfalls are available. Relax on the lawn or in the brine grotto. The sauna world features eight saunas from 45 to 100°C. Since 2016 there is a ladies-only area. The sauna lake in the nude garden covers 203 square meters. A 1001 Nights experience opened in 2018. There is also a water slide outside.

So, next time you’re seeking relaxation remember Kurhessen Therme. It once even housed a cinema. Parts of the movie “Nur aus Liebe” were filmed here in 1996. Now that’s a bit of movie trivia to remember Kurhessen Therme by.
