It’s a “Götterdämmerung” design, the tallest of its kind, reaching a height of 25.5 meters. Inaugurated on September 2, 1904, it was a project of the Verschönerungsverein Kassel, a local beautification association. The tower’s construction is a testament to local craftsmanship. Basalt and basalt tuff, quarried nearby in the Hoher Habichtswald, form the sturdy structure and outer veneer. Inside, a winding staircase, once basalt and now stainless steel, leads to the observation deck. This platform, perched high above the city at 456.3 meters above sea level, offers breathtaking panoramic views. Imagine gazing out across the Kassel basin, the surrounding mountains unfolding before you. The Reinhardswald to the north, the Kaufunger Wald and Söhre to the east.
