The new Botanisches Institut building boasts a striking design. There is a main building on Sebastian-Kneipp-Strasse. Connected to it are greenhouses and outdoor areas. The ground floor houses a foyer a public seminar room and other facilities. The upper floors contain laboratory spaces offices and meeting rooms. These spaces are used for research and teaching.

Three greenhouses extend south from the main building. Each greenhouse has a unique design. This is due to the specific needs of different plants. The research greenhouse is divided into 14 individually controlled compartments. The display greenhouses have a high plant density. This results in a 7.5-meter-high wall. The most striking is the Palm House. Its 15-meter-high roofline makes it a true centerpiece.

Beyond the greenhouses lies a workshop and a separate area for gardening activities. The Botanisches Institut Karlsruhe isn’t just a place of research.
