The story of Slightly Chilled is as captivating as its ambiance. Owner Michael Richardson’s journey is one of serendipity and determination. He arrived in Sri Lanka by chance in the late 90s. He initially intended to travel to India but ended up climbing Adam’s Peak instead. He fell in love with the island. In 2003 he returned searching for investment opportunities. He established a guesthouse named “Slightly Chilled” on Adam’s Peak.
His vision? A chain of restaurants all named “Slightly Chilled”. In 2008 while distributing leaflets for his guesthouse he discovered a dilapidated pub near Bogambara Lake. He was instantly captivated by its balcony overlooking the lake and the majestic mountains beyond.
He acquired the pub and after renovations relaunched it as Slightly Chilled Lounge Bar and Restaurant on 11 11 11. The first year was challenging but eventually. The restaurant flourished. Today it’s a bustling hub.
Slightly Chilled offers British Chinese and Mexican cuisines. It caters to diverse tastes with vegan and gluten-free options. The restaurant is known for its delicious food. Chefs Kumara and Arjuna create both familiar and innovative dishes. You can savor dishes like battered prawns sizzling beef and a surprising array of vegan delights. The prices are reasonable. Most main courses are around Rs 1000.
Cricket legends like Johnny Bairstow and Colin De Grandhomme have been spotted here. The restaurant’s atmosphere is lively. Michael himself sometimes takes to the turntables spinning house and trance music. The friendly Boxer dog JD a regular presence adds to the relaxed ambience.
