This private university, nestled within the grounds of Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in Jakarta Timur, has a unique story to tell. Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma began its journey in 1987 as the Institut Tekhnologi Dirgantara. This was the culmination of a dream the Indonesian Air Force had nurtured since the 1970s. The Air Force, recognizing the need for professionals in aerospace technology, established the institute through the YASAU foundation. Initially, it offered three programs: Flight Logistics Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, and Flight Electrical Engineering. In 1989, the institute transformed into the Sekolah Tinggi Tekhnologi Dirgantara (STTD). This marked Indonesia’s first higher education institution dedicated to aerospace. The STTD gained recognition in 1998. Driven by its success, YASAU elevated the STTD to university status in 1999. This marked the birth of Universitas Suryadarma, later renamed Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma to emphasize its aerospace specialization. The university expanded beyond its initial focus. It added faculties in fields like Civil Engineering and Planning, Economics, Law, and Social and Political Sciences. A significant development occurred in 2023. The AKPER RSP TNI-AU, a nursing academy under YASAU, merged with Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma, creating the Faculty of Health Sciences. Today, UNSURYA offers a range of programs. It has undergraduate programs in fields like Aeronautical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, Law, and Accounting. It also offers graduate programs in Management and Law, as well as diploma programs. Universitas Dirgantara Marsekal Suryadarma stands as a testament to the Indonesian Air Force’s commitment to education and technological advancement.
