Doesn’t its nickname, Golden Dome Mosque, just hint at the opulence awaiting us at Masjid Dian Al-Mahri? This isn’t just a place of worship. It is a breathtaking landmark that attracts locals and tourists alike. The Masjid Dian Al-Mahri stands proudly on the edge of Raya Street in Depok City. It is a testament to architectural grandeur and devotion.

The story of Masjid Dian Al-Mahri begins with Hj Dian Djuriah Maimun Al Rashid. She was a businesswoman from Banten. She purchased the land in 1996. Construction started in 2001. It concluded around the end of 2006. The mosque opened to the public on December 31, 2006. This day coincided with the second Eid al-Adha of that year.

Spanning 50 hectares, the building itself covers 8,000 square meters. Masjid Dian Al-Mahri can accommodate around 20,000 worshippers. It is one of the largest mosques in Southeast Asia. The area offers a place for prayer, family outings and peaceful rest.

The architecture of Masjid Dian Al-Mahri is truly remarkable. It features three domes. There is one main dome and two smaller ones. All domes are coated in gold. The gold is two to three millimeters thick. Crystal mosaics adorn the domes. This makes them a unique and stunning sight. The main dome’s shape resembles the Taj Mahal’s dome in India. It measures 20 meters in diameter and 25 meters in height. The smaller domes have diameters of about 6 to 7 meters. Their heights reach 8 meters.

Inside, the Masjid Dian Al-Mahri continues to impress. Chandeliers imported from Italy weigh eight tons. The relief above the imam’s residence contains 18-carat gold. Calligraphy embellishes the second-floor fence and the ceiling. The crown pillars contain 168 pieces of layered gold residue. The prayer hall’s monochrome color scheme uses cream. This creates a quiet and warm atmosphere. Marble from Turkey and Italy was used for the interior.

The architectural style blends Middle Eastern designs. It includes domes, minarets and geometric patterns. These reinforce the Islamic character. The inner courtyard measures 45 by 57 meters. It can accommodate 8,000 worshippers. Six hexagonal minarets symbolize the pillars of faith. They stand 40 meters tall. Gray granite stone from Italy clads the towers. Each tower is topped with a 24-carat gold-plated mosaic dome. The minaret domes resemble Persian and Indian styles. Five domes represent the Islamic pillars. All are wrapped in 24-karat gold-plated mosaics from Italy.

Masjid Dian Al-Mahri is more than just a building. It embodies devotion, artistic brilliance and cultural richness. It serves as a beacon of faith and architectural wonder. Its golden domes and intricate details invite all to admire its beauty. It reminds us of the power of faith and human creativity.
