Considered one of Jakarta’s top five malls by Forbes, Plaza Senayan is more than just a shopping destination. Officially opened on April 26 1996 the Plaza Senayan is located in Central Jakarta Indonesia. It offers a blend of designer goods and gourmet food.
Before Plaza Senayan existed this land was part of the 1962 Asian Games athlete complex. It consisted of houses apartments and maisonettes. The Plaza Senayan project was planned as Senayan Square starting in 1991.
The Plaza Senayan complex includes apartments office buildings and a luxury shopping center. The shopping center covers around 130000 square meters. It houses approximately 235 stores.
Plaza Senayan aimed to keep Indonesians shopping locally. It attracted top tenants like Chloe Carl Lagerfield Giorgio Armani Sogo and Metro. An early advertisement read Life is only once. It drew criticism for promoting unnecessary consumerism.
Sogo and Metro have been here since October 1999 and January 1996. Other notable tenants include Foodhall XXI Guess Zara Louis Vuitton and many more. Its strategic location and luxury stores made it a top pick for Forbes travel writers.
The Sentral Senayan office complex consists of three identical buildings. Construction of Sentral Senayan I began in April 1996 after the mall opened. The building has 18 floors and was designed by Kajima Design and Airmas Asri. Construction was completed in December 1997.
Due to the monetary crisis construction of Sentral Senayan II was delayed until 2005. It was completed in November 2007 and opened in February 2008. Sentral Senayan III was built between September 2008 and November 2010.
The structure of all Sentral Senayan buildings is similar. It provides column-free interiors supported by a core and perimeter columns. Tenants include Kajima Maybank Indonesia Mastercard and others.
The Plaza Senayan Apartments were built for expatriates and upper-class residents. These four towers have a Balinese theme. Construction was split into two phases. Towers A and B were completed in May 1998. Towers C and D were completed in July 2012.
The final addition to the Plaza Senayan complex is the Hotel Fairmont Jakarta. Plans for a hotel were made in the 1990s but delayed by the 1998 crisis. Construction began in December 2011 and finished around 2015.
The Hotel Fairmont Jakarta has 32 floors and 488 rooms. Kajima Design and Anggara Architeam designed it in a minimalist Japanese style. The hotel has several dining options meeting rooms and a ballroom. It offers underground access to Sentral Senayan and Plaza Senayan.
Plaza Senayan is known for its giant musical clock called the Marygold Clock. Seiko Japan made this clock. It features six musical figures that move with the hourly jingle. It’s a unique attraction in Jakarta.
Plaza Senayan has received awards including nominations for Indonesia Design Best Design Award. It also won four categories in the International Hotel Awards 2018. Plaza Senayan stands as a symbol of luxury and modernity in Jakarta.
