Designed to inspire. The Tugu Institut Teknologi Indonesia Stele stands as a testament to engineering aspirations. It embodies the dreams of creating skilled engineers ready to compete globally. These engineers should be highly qualified and morally upright.

This stele marks the spot of Institut Teknologi Indonesia or ITI. ITI’s story began with a vision by Prof. B.J. Habibie. He wanted to complement the Puspiptek area with educational facilities. The institution arose from Indonesia’s need for engineers. Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia or PII was encouraged to establish a technical college in 1983.

The Yayasan Pengembangan Teknologi Indonesia or YPTI was founded on February 24 1984. The XI National Congress of PII in Palembang in May 1984 endorsed the establishment of a technical college. YPTI issued decree No.01/Kept-YPTI/1984 on June 2 1984. This decree concerned the establishment of the Institut Teknologi Indonesia or ITI.

Aligned with this mandate ITI was founded by Prof. B.J Habibie in 1984. It aimed to complete the Puspiptek area with educational facilities. ITI initially had three faculties with nine departments. The student body consisted of 900 individuals. Lectures commenced on October 1 1984. This historic date is celebrated as the Dies Natalis or anniversary of ITI.

Since its inception ITI committed itself to delivering efficient affordable and high-quality technical education. ITI faced the dynamics of higher education. It responded by strengthening its management through updates to the foundation’s organizational structure. Reorganization restructuring and curriculum reorientation followed in 2007-2008.

These changes transformed ITI’s educational approach. It became The Technology-based Entrepreneur University. ITI produces superior human resources in science and technology. It also creates technopreneurs that unlock opportunities for a brighter future. These outcomes stem from ITI’s ongoing efforts to improve its education quality and services. This aligns with the evolving dynamics of science technology and the need for technical higher education.

The inscription on the Tugu Institut Teknologi Indonesia Stele is very meaningful. It states ITI was founded within the Center for Science and Technology Research area. It aimed to create synergy. It serves as a vehicle for engineers. They can build the future civilization of the Indonesian nation. These are the words of Prof. Dr. -Ing. B. J. Habibie.

Consider this stele a symbol of ITI’s core mission. It is a reminder of its commitment to Indonesia’s technological advancement. As you stand here reflect on the power of education. It shapes not only individuals but also the future of a nation. The Tugu Institut Teknologi Indonesia Stele is more than just a monument. It’s a beacon of progress.
