Freeman Wilkinson was a member of Captain Thomas H. McIntire’s company during that pivotal battle. This battle, fought on April 21, 1836, secured Texan independence. Wilkinson survived the battle, only to pass away a few years later in 1839 in Lynchburg. He was then laid to rest near his comrades who fell during the battle.
