The facade of Lyngsbæk Hovedgård looks almost frozen in time. Lyngsbæk Hovedgård is a manor house, a fine example of classicism. The imposing main building boasts a three-part structure, highlighted by a central projection crowned with a pediment. It is said that the manor derives its name from the small village of Lyngsbæk, which was once a thriving center of agricultural activity. But now it is only a story, whispered through the aged walls of the manor, the place where the renowned margarine manufacturer Otto Mønsted was born in 1838. It is interesting to note that the estate was initially a crown property before King Christian IV granted permission for the Hassens Birk to occupy it in 1578. The Birk’s bailiff, Kjørn Quitzow, a man of German descent, was granted permission to enlarge the land on the property. At the end of the 17th century, Lyngsbæk Hovedgård was sold to Rasmus Andersen from Ebeltoft who, in turn, sold it to Hans Jacobsen, a royal rider master on Mols, who also served as the city judge in Ebeltoft. The history of the estate is not only one of changing hands but also one of fascinating individuals who left their mark on its story. Jacob Hanson, a descendant of Hans Jacobsen, is credited with building the manor complex, which included the impressive barn built in the 1770s. It was a time when prosperity flourished in the region and Jacob Hanson, like those before him, worked to expand the estate.
