General Olaf Rye, a skilled military strategist, led his brigade up the Jutland peninsula, seeking refuge in Råunde. While fortifications were being built here at Helgenæs, his troops found temporary shelter at Råunde. The urgency of the situation is palpable even today. This site, named in honor of General Rye, was never truly tested in battle. It served as a strategic staging ground for Rye’s brigade before their pivotal role in the Battle of Fredericia.
