Hidden in L’Haÿ-les-Roses, the Voie des Postes whispers tales of a bygone era. This quiet street, linked to the prominent Wikidata entry Q112063981, holds a unique story. Originally, Voie des Postes was associated with a different location, the Passage des Postes in Paris’s 5th arrondissement. This Parisian passage, nestled between Rue Mouffetard and Rue Lhomond, boasts a charming 19th-century ambiance. Its beamed ceilings and cobblestone pavement evoke a nostalgic Old Paris. The Passage des Postes emerged from a private initiative. In 1830, during the Second Restoration, Barral de Montauvrard sought to connect Rue des Postes (now Rue Lhomond) with Rue Mouffetard. He obtained royal approval and carved the 9.74-meter wide passage. The passage even makes appearances in literature. It’s the lair of Colonel Olrik in Blake and Mortimer’s “The Affair of the Necklace”. Victor Hugo also mentions it in “Les Misérables”, where Valjean uses it to escape Javert. The street’s name, “des Postes” or “of the Posts”, harkens back to the former Rue des Postes. This older street housed the Saint-Esprit seminary after its move in 1732. The Voie des Postes in L’Haÿ-les-Roses likely takes its name from this Parisian passage. Perhaps a resident admired the Parisian passage or had a connection to the area. The quiet suburban street echoes the history of its namesake, a hidden gem in the heart of Paris.
