Envision a beacon of knowledge. Universitas Mercubuana stands as a testament to the power of education. Right here in Jakarta, this private university has been shaping minds and futures since its inception in 1985. Universitas Mercubuana’s story begins with a man named H. Probosutedjo, a former teacher with a vision. In 1981, he established the Dewantara Entrepreneur Academy (Akademi Wiraswasta Dewantara or AWD). Initially, classes were held in a borrowed building on Jalan Gatot Soebroto. But in 1984, the Menara Bhakti Foundation, also founded by Probosutedjo, built a dedicated campus for AWD, laying the groundwork for what would become Universitas Mercubuana. The university officially opened its doors on October 22, 1985. It began with just three faculties: Engineering, Agriculture, and Economics. A mere 118 students comprised the first cohort. Universitas Mercubuana has since grown significantly. It now boasts a wide range of faculties. These include faculties like Computer Science, Communication Studies, and Psychology. It even offers postgraduate programs. Universitas Mercubuana’s main campus, the Menara Bhakti Campus, is located in West Jakarta. It also has campuses in Menteng and Warung Buncit. These campuses provide students with various facilities. These include modern laboratories, sports facilities, auditoriums, dormitories, and even a television studio. Universitas Mercubuana has consistently ranked among the top universities in Indonesia. The university is also deeply committed to its three core principles of education, research, and community service. Universitas Mercubuana continues to empower students to excel in the digital age. It strives to nurture innovation, academic excellence, and character development in its students, preparing them to become future leaders. Universitas Mercubuana’s journey from a small academy to a leading university reflects Indonesia’s growing emphasis on education and its potential to transform lives.
