Have you ever dreamt of living amongst the clouds? Here at The Stratford Residences, that dream almost became a reality. The Stratford Residences, an unfinished marvel in Makati, was envisioned as the tallest residential building in the Philippines. Planned to boast 74 storeys, it aimed to pierce the Manila skyline, a beacon of modern living. Picar Development Inc., the real estate arm of the AMA Group of Companies, embarked on this ambitious project in 2011, drawing inspiration from iconic skyscrapers like the Hearst Tower and Bank of America Tower in New York City. The Stratford Residences was designed not just for height, but also for elegance and resilience. Architect Jose Pedro C. Recio envisioned a folded facade, not just an aesthetic choice but a functional one, designed to maximize natural and artificial light. The building was engineered to withstand earthquakes, a crucial factor in this seismically active region. The interiors, designed by Ivy and Cynthia Almario, were planned to be the epitome of contemporary luxury, with minimalist design and premium fixtures. Imagine stepping into your apartment, controlled lighting at your fingertips, Wi-Fi seamlessly connecting you to the world. Picture yourself enjoying 24-hour concierge service, relaxing in the meditation garden, or taking a dip in the pool, all high above the bustling city. The Stratford Residences was also intended to be a vibrant hub, the anchor of the mixed-use Picar Place complex. Alongside the residential units, plans included retail spaces and commercial establishments like the Buddha Bar, which opened in 2012. The location, near the Ateneo Professional Schools and Power Plant Mall, added to the allure of this ambitious development. Sadly, the ambitious project stalled around 2016, leaving the building half-completed. Despite the setback, plans were revived in 2022 to downsize and complete The Stratford Residences by 2027. Though not as tall as originally envisioned, it still promises to be a striking addition to the Makati skyline. The Stratford Residences, a testament to ambition and resilience, serves as a reminder that even unfinished dreams can hold a certain beauty.
