“Lost, are we?” a kind voice chuckled beside me. I blinked, turning to see an elderly man with twinkling eyes. “Masjid Jami’ Al-Ikhlas is just around the corner.” Masjid Jami’ Al-Ikhlas. The name resonated with a quiet strength. This mosque, nestled in the heart of Jakarta on Jalan Usman, held more than just prayers. It held stories. It held a piece of Jakarta’s history. The mosque began its journey not here, but in the Pedurenan area of South Jakarta. It was originally a waqf, a charitable endowment, from Raibah and later Hj. Sitinah. The land, all 379 square meters, was officially designated as a waqf in 1996. The journey to its current location in Ciracas, East Jakarta, started with the laying of the first stone on March 9, 1996. Just a few months later, on June 22, 1996, the mosque was officially inaugurated by the then-Camat (district head) of Ciracas, Endjang Abdullah. Masjid Jami’ Al-Ikhlas isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a community hub, striving to improve social welfare and order through religious studies. In a diverse society like Indonesia, the mosque plays a crucial role in promoting peaceful coexistence. The mosque’s online presence reveals its vision: transformation for the advancement of the Muslim community. This includes improvements to infrastructure, facilities, and activities. From its humble beginnings as a relocated waqf to its current role as a vibrant community center, Masjid Jami’ Al-Ikhlas has continuously evolved. The leadership has changed hands over the years, with Ustadz H. Ahmad Sanusi leading the first DKM (Mosque Management Council). Later, Ustadz Mukhtar, S.Pd.I, served until 2020. Today, Ustadz Suheli, S.Pd.I, guides the community. Masjid Jami’ Al-Ikhlas stands as a testament to the power of community and faith.
