Interestingly, Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo adds the word “Beragama” to its name. What does it mean? Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo is a private university in Jakarta. It was founded in 1962 by Major General TNI Prof Dr Moestopo and R.A. Soepartin Moestopo.

Moestopo was a dentist and Head of Jaw Surgery at Gatot Subroto Army Hospital. He envisioned a need for healthcare workers. This inspired him to start a dentistry course in Jakarta. In 1952, he founded the Tukang Gigi Dr. Moestopo Course. By 1958, it evolved into the Dental College Dr. Moestopo. This college had two departments. One was for dentists and the other for dental technicians. To meet the demand for dentists, the college became the Faculty of Dentistry in 1961.

The Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo foundation was established on February 15 1962. At its start, the university had several faculties. These included Dentistry, General Medicine, Social and Political Sciences and Economics. There was also Agricultural Engineering, Publicistics, and Ushuluddin. But due to funding and resource issues, some programs were cut. These were Medicine, Agricultural Engineering and Ushuluddin.

Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo stands out with its unique name. It includes “Beragama” which means religious. But it does not specify a religion. One explanation is that “Beragama” represents the university’s commitment to Pancasila’s first principle. Another version links to Indonesia’s political conflicts in 1966. During this time, communism was suppressed. Universities linked to communism were shut down. Adding “Beragama” showed that Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo was not affiliated with communism or the PKI.

Today, Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo has five faculties. These faculties offer eight study programs. There are also three Masters programs and one Doctoral program. These programs cover Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctoral, and professional levels.

The Faculty of Dentistry offers a Bachelor’s in Dentistry and a professional Dental program. The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences includes International Relations and Public Administration. The Faculty of Economics and Business offers Accounting and Management. The Faculty of Communication Sciences has a Communication Science program. The Faculty of Engineering features Mining Engineering and Industrial Engineering. The Postgraduate Program offers Masters in Management, Public Administration and Communication Science. It also provides a Doctorate in Public Administration.

The Universitas Prof Dr Moestopo has three campuses. Campus 1 is on Jalan Hang Lekir I. Campus 2 is on Jalan Bintaro Permai Raya. Campus 3 is on Jalan Swadarma Raya.

Facilities include a Dental Hospital. It also has a central library, a polyclinic and an auditorium. You can also find a multipurpose building and laboratories here. There is also a Swadarma practice room.

Notable alumni include Dimas Andrean, Edhy Prabowo and Jeffrie Geovanie. Naomi Zaskia, Oza Rangkuti and Pangeran Siahaan also attended.
