Is this truly a street fit for a marquis? The Rue Jouffroy d’Abbans, a distinguished path in the 17th arrondissement. It’s named after a visionary, Claude de Jouffroy d’Abbans. He was the man who dared to dream of steam-powered vessels. The very same boulevard we stand upon pays homage to his ingenuity. Rue Jouffroy d’Abbans begins its journey at the bustling Boulevard Pereire and gracefully concludes at the expansive Avenue de Wagram. Along this route, it intersects with historical landmarks. These points form the Place du Nicaragua and Place Monseigneur-Loutil. The street wasn’t always adorned with the full name of the marquis. It was known simply as “Rue Jouffroy” until 1994. To avoid postal confusion with the similarly named Rue Sauffroy, the powers that be decided to give credit where credit was due. It seems even streets can have identity crises in a city as grand as Paris.
