Consider, if you will, a building inspired by Beyoncé’s “Ghost” music video. That’s Premier Tower. Premier Tower stands tall on the corner of Bourke and Spencer Streets in Melbourne. It is a mixed-use skyscraper that has become an iconic part of the city’s skyline.
Elenberg Fraser designed the Premier Tower. Initial plans proposed a 294-meter building with 90 stories in 2014. To avoid casting a shadow on the Yarra River, the height and levels were reduced. In May 2015, the planning minister approved the development. It now stands at 246 meters with 78 levels.
The Fragrance Group developed the Premier Tower at a cost of AUD$430 million. Construction began in January 2017 and finished in June 2021. Premier Tower includes 795 apartments and 172 hotel rooms.
Premier Tower’s design pays homage to Beyoncé’s fabric-draped silhouette in her “Ghost” music video. The building captures the curves of the human form. The architects used parametric modeling to maximize views and minimize wind effects. This software-based method attached formulas to key design parameters. It considered floor areas, frontages, building heights, and setbacks.
Premier Tower boasts several shared facilities. Level 7 offers a 25-meter indoor heated pool. You will also find spas, a sauna, and a steam room there. An indoor PT gym, an outdoor active space and a large residential lounge are located here. Private suites include a lounge, dining area, bar, and AV system. Full catering kitchens are available. An indoor garden lounge and an outdoor terrace with BBQ facilities complete the picture.
Level 46 features more residential amenities. A virtual golf room and theatre room offer entertainment. Game and lounge rooms include poker, billiards, mahjong, and ping pong areas. Full catering kitchens and karaoke rooms are also on this floor.
Premier Club amenities are on Level 76 for Premier Apartment residents. These include a library and private dining rooms. Dedicated kitchen facilities, a karaoke and media room, and a billiard room await. A theatre completes this exclusive space.
Premier Tower is opposite Southern Cross Station. Its location offers access to RMIT University and Melbourne University. Public transport is easily accessible. The Skybus provides direct access to Melbourne International Airport. The Crown Casino Complex and Southbank are nearby. Bourke Street Mall is a short tram ride away.
The skyscraper integrates sustainable innovations such as electric car-charging parking spots. The lobby reflects Beyoncé as “The Muse.” Common areas embody “The Fighter,” “The Performer,” and “The Temptress.” Kitchens feature Miele appliances and natural stone countertops. Bathrooms showcase bespoke benchtops and Japanese wall tiles. All homes have full-height glazing and custom robe doors.
Premier Tower is more than just a building. It is a statement of art and design. It blurs the lines between architecture and music.
