Have you ever heard of a town named after a misunderstanding? The First Missionary Baptist Church of Cockrell Hill has witnessed the growth of this quirky town. Cockrell Hill wasn’t always known by that name. It was initially named after either Wesley Cockrell or his cousin, Alexander, an early pioneer. Legend has it that there was confusion about which Cockrell the town was meant to honor. Nevertheless, the name stuck, and Cockrell Hill it became. The First Missionary Baptist Church of Cockrell Hill has been a steadfast presence through it all, a testament to the enduring spirit of faith and community.
