From humble beginnings in a 20-square-meter musholla the Masjid Jami BSC Al Futuwwah rose. This Jakarta mosque’s story is one of growth and resilience. Founded in May 2000 it started as a small place for children’s religious studies. It provided care for orphans and the underprivileged in the surrounding area.
The name Al-Futuwwah itself reflects a spirit of youthful dynamism. It means “youthful knights” or “brave youths”. This spirit fueled its expansion. By 2010 the musholla had transformed into a full-fledged mosque. This was thanks to gradual land acquisition. The mosque now sits on 400 square meters of land.
Initially the number of children attending religious classes ranged from 20 to 30. Now over 125 children benefit from the mosque’s programs. Seventy-five are orphans and 50 are from disadvantaged families. These children range in age from 4 to 16 years old. They attend classes that go from kindergarten to high school. Many of them live near the Masjid Jami BSC Al Futuwwah in Cipete Utara.
The mosque’s charitable work started informally. Over time the need for formal structure became clear. In 2002 the BSC Al-Futuwwah Foundation was officially registered. This was done through a founding deed. Donations to support the orphanage are channeled through a designated bank account. This ensures transparency and accountability.
The foundation’s reach extends beyond Cipete Utara. There’s another branch in Cisarua Bogor. The Masjid Jami BSC Al Futuwwah stands as a testament to community spirit. It stands as a beacon of hope for vulnerable children in Jakarta. It is more than just a place of worship. It is a vital community hub providing education and support to those in need. The mosque continues to thrive embodying the courageous spirit reflected in its name.
