HKBP Kayu Tinggi started its journey decades ago. Finally it obtained its building permit IMB in 2022 marking a new chapter. The formal construction of the HKBP Kayu Tinggi church building began. The first stone was symbolically laid on Sunday September 11 2022. This was done by Reverend Rudi Saut Mampe Pardede. He is a pastor at HKBP Resort Kayu Tinggi.
The building committee of HKBP Kayu Tinggi quickly prepared to start construction. This began after the Head of the Capital Investment Management Unit and Integrated Services issued the IMB. The IMB was for the HKBP Kayu Tinggi Church located on Jalan Cempaka I Dalam.
Local government representatives attended the event. This included the heads of RT 12 RT 13 and RW as well as representatives from the Lurah. Darman represented the Lurah of Cakung Timur. He expressed hope that the church construction process would go smoothly. He advised the church to consider making well infiltration around the church.
The heads of RT 12 RT 13 and RW 009 also expressed their support. They appreciated the spirit of tolerance between religious communities. This created harmony and peace in the area.
Sondang Tampubolon a member of the DPR RI also attended the groundbreaking ceremony. Before being elected as a member of the DPR she paid special attention to the HKBP Kayu Tinggi church. Sondang Tampubolon encouraged the congregation not to be afraid of the construction costs. She said that God would surely help.
Sondang Tampubolon said do not be afraid of financing. We have a living God. Let us all work together and make promises of faith for the smooth construction of our church.

The old church building could not accommodate the growing congregation. During major religious holidays many members had to sit outside. They longed for a larger building to worship and pray. They wanted a space that would foster fellowship and unity.
The old building only held 150 people. The church complex had enough land but the building was too small. Sunday school classes and other activities were held in inadequate spaces. The new design includes more space for all church activities.
The original building was built in the 1980s. Its structure was weak. It had brick walls without concrete support beams. The walls lacked foundations. The wood supporting the ceiling and roof was rotting. Past renovations were only temporary fixes. So it was decided to build a new building from scratch. The old structure could not be renovated. Much of the current building is still the original structure. The HKBP Kayu Tinggi church building was simply not safe anymore.
The congregation’s faith inspired them to raise funds. Most members are of modest means. They still wanted to build a new church. They needed significant funds. The existing building was inadequate. The congregation sought help from anyone willing to donate and pray for the project.
The building project was planned in phases. Phase one was the construction of the church building. Phase two was the construction of the consistory activity rooms offices and parking lot. The construction was carefully planned. It considered the budget the need for more space noise reduction and other improvements. The goal was to create a suitable comfortable solemn peaceful and safe place for worship. The new church building meets all the community needs.
