Let’s step back in time. The Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ has a rich history. It began in 1820 with the Stanton Baptist Church. Around 1832, opinions diverged. This led to a separation. Some members wanted to focus solely on the Bible. They formed what became Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ.

The early members first met in private homes. They also gathered at Dixon Schoolhouse. They even held services in a barn. These dedicated individuals sought a pure form of worship. They relied only on the Word of God.

In 1846, they built their first church home. It was a brick building painted gray. It measured 32 by 36 feet. Double doors stood at the front. The pulpit was between these doors. The floor sloped upward. Lampposts illuminated the aisles. Kerosene lamps provided light.

As time passed, the building needed repairs. In 1891, the congregation debated repair versus rebuild. After much prayer, they decided to build anew. Construction started on August 31st. Members and friends contributed time and resources. The new building was complete. Its dedication occurred on January 3rd, 1892. L.L. Carpenter preached the dedicatory sermon.

The second building served for many years. In the early 1930s, a basement was added. Teams used slipscoops to dig it. In the mid-1940s, a vestibule was built. The parsonage followed in 1949. Sunday school rooms were added in 1953.

The current building was built at the corner of Salem Ridge Road and Hartford Ridge Road. The first service was a Christmas program in December 2000. The official dedication took place on February 4th, 2001.
