Around 1480 a remarkable tower rose. It was the beginning of St Vitus und Modestus in Eggenstein. This church stands as a testament to faith and time. Its square tower is a striking feature. Parts of an older structure dating back to 1160 were incorporated. This shows the church’s long and layered history. The nave was expanded in 1781. A transept was added transforming it into a cruciform church. The tower gained an octagonal story. It houses the clock and bell tower. A pointed spire crowns it.

Inside the choir are frescoes. They date back to the church’s construction. On the north side of the nave is a depiction of the Adoration of the Magi. It was added in 1893. The south side depicts scenes from the life of Saint Vitus and his companions. The church’s organ was built in 1853. Bernhard Merklin built it. He worked with his uncle Franz Joseph Merklin. The craftsmanship is stunning.
