Beneath Jakarta’s bustling streets lies a sanctuary of peace. It is Masjid Ash-Shiddiq. This house of worship stands as a testament to faith and community. Let’s uncover the story of this special place.
Masjid Ash-Shiddiq is located on Jl. Otista Raya 411 in Cawang, East Jakarta. It is not far from the intersection of Jl.MT Haryono. Its name comes from Abu Bakar Ash-Shiddiq. He was a close friend of Prophet Muhammad and the first caliph.
The mosque was founded through a waqf. It came from the family of Bpk. Haji Abdul Qadir Askar. Masjid Ash-Shiddiq opened on July 20, 2012. This date coincided with the 1st of Ramadhan 1433 H.
The building has a simple urban style. It looks like a shop house. Yet, curved windows and a dome distinguish it. A gold inscription displays the mosque’s name in Latin and Arabic.
Masjid Ash-Shiddiq has five floors. The first two floors serve as prayer spaces. The upper floors provide multipurpose rooms for rent. The main prayer area is on the second floor. The first floor accommodates female worshippers. During Friday prayers, it becomes an additional space. Each floor spans about 100 m2. Corridors add another 50 m2, totaling 250 m2. It can hold about 500 people.
Inside, the qibla wall features a rectangular mihrab. It is adorned with Jepara wood carvings of flowers. Above, calligraphy displays verses from the Quran. The same calligraphy circles the upper walls. The mihrab holds a prayer rug for the imam and a wooden mimbar. The mimbar also features Jepara carvings. A TV LCD sits in the background.
To enhance comfort, the mosque has six AC units and three fans. These keep the space cool. Before entering, worshippers can use complimentary perfume. A sign reads: “Perfume is for mosque use only, do not take away.” Prayers and Quran recitations fill the air.
During services, announcements are made. These include financial reports and community events. Speakers encourage unity and justice. They also remind people to choose leaders wisely.
Masjid Ash-Shiddiq provides not just a place for prayer. It offers a space for reflection and community. Its architecture is simple but elegant. It blends urban style with Islamic tradition. The mosque stands as a symbol of faith in Jakarta. It welcomes all who seek peace and connection.
