Is this where faith found its home? Right before you stands the United Missionary Baptist Church. This building holds within its walls a history as dynamic as the city itself. The United Missionary Baptist Church’s story begins in 1966. A group of around seventy believers, led by Rev. Clarence Jones, came together with a shared desire for spiritual growth. Initially, they held their services at the Galatians M.B. Church. However, their dream soon found a permanent address at 4218-4220 West Roosevelt Road. The name “United” resonated with their shared vision, and on July 24, 1966, United Baptist Church officially came into being. The following years were a testament to their unity and faith. The church flourished under the leadership of Rev. Wilson Daniels, who became pastor in 1974. They thrived not just in numbers but also in spirit and financial strength. This period marked significant milestones for the United Missionary Baptist Church. They celebrated becoming debt-free, which paved the way for expansion. An educational wing was added, signifying their commitment to growth and learning. The church purchased surrounding lots, making affordable housing a reality for the community. In 1999, they inaugurated a new edifice, a testament to their progress. This addition, which now houses the sanctuary, offices, and fellowship hall, was dedicated to the founding pastor, Rev. Clarence Jones. The United Missionary Baptist Church’s journey reflects the enduring power of faith, resilience, and community. It stands as a beacon of hope and a testament to the dreams that blossomed on West Roosevelt Road.
