On March 1, 1963, a simple home on Givendale Street in Dallas held the seeds of a powerful spiritual movement. This home, the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Lelton Brown, was the initial meeting place for Greater Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. The church’s founder, Reverend Horace Lee Crayton, felt a divine calling to establish a place of worship. Greater Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church was initially a mission. Meetings took place weekly throughout March and continued into April of that year.
This small gathering quickly grew into something more substantial. Rev. Crayton, guided by faith, sought a permanent location. His search led him to a small house on 2426 Givendale Street in Oak Cliff, Dallas, TX. This discovery, a result of divine guidance, marked a turning point for the fledgling church. The congregation decided to purchase the house, laying the foundation for Greater Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. The church’s journey began with a mission in a humble home and blossomed into a beacon of faith in Oak Cliff.
