The Gereja Kristen Muria Depok is part of a larger network. The Gereja Kristen Muria Indonesia (GKMI) has a rich history. It began in Kudus Central Java before 1920. A Chinese Indonesian couple Tee Siem Tat and Sie Djoen Nio started it. Their faith ignited a movement. It spread across Java Bali Sumatra and Kalimantan. The GKMI is connected to the Mennonite World Conference. It’s a testament to enduring faith. It’s a living legacy.
The church’s beginnings were humble. It started as an indigenous Christian movement. Early believers sought baptism from Russian Mennonite missionaries. This was in the Muria area in December 1920. The group officially organized in 1925. They used the Dutch name Chineesche Doopsgezinde Christengemeente. The Dutch East Indies government recognized them in 1927.
By the 1940s several congregations formed. They included Chinese Indonesian believers. These believers found faith through Mennonite missionaries. The missionaries mainly worked among the Javanese population. The churches sometimes used the Chinese name Tiong Hwa Kie Tok Kau Hwe. In 1948 they organized into a synod. They called it Khu Hwee Muria. By 1958 they changed the name to Persatuan Gereja-Gereja Kristen Muria Indonesia.
The GKMI’s influence expanded. It moved beyond the Muria area. It reached other ethnic groups across Indonesia’s main islands. The church’s growth demonstrates the power of faith. It shows the strength of community. The Gereja Kristen Muria Depok stands as a symbol of that growth. It’s a beacon of hope. It’s a testament to enduring faith. It continues to serve its community. It stands as a part of Indonesia’s rich tapestry. Its heritage weaves through generations. The Gereja Kristen Muria Depok stands tall. It continues to spread the message of faith and love. It’s a place of spiritual nourishment. It’s a place where stories are told and shared. The Gereja Kristen Muria Depok. A vibrant part of Depok’s identity.
