Envision this a sanctuary of knowledge, the Rizal Library stands as a testament to Ateneo de Manila University’s commitment to learning. It is more than just a building. The Rizal Library is a vibrant hub for students and researchers alike.

In 2006, Ateneo de Manila University recognized the need for a new library. The expanding collection outgrew the old Rizal Library. Thus, the new Rizal Library was built to accommodate this growth. It was completed in 2009. The new Library is the last element framing one of the University’s quadrangles. The old Rizal Library stands directly across from it.

The Rizal Library is divided into two sections. The South Wing is for the circulation of books. The North Wing houses offices and audio-visual functions. A link connects the two wings. This link features an atrium with a water feature, stairs, and lifts to the upper levels.

Notice the accents of the facade. They are in brick. This maintains consistency with the other buildings surrounding the quadrangle.

The Rizal Library boasts a large collection of resources. These include books, periodicals, newspapers, and databases. It also holds special collections.

One notable collection is the American Historical Collection. It focuses on the American experience in the Philippines. Another is the Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings. Also there is the Pardo de Tavera Collection. This collection is about Philippine history and prominent figures.

Undergraduate students from other schools can access the Rizal Library. They need a valid student ID and a referral letter. A fee is required. It depends on the day and time of their visit. Dress code requirements must be observed.

For Ateneo alumni, there’s even better news. They can enjoy free access to the Rizal Library and its facilities. This excludes computer terminals and WiFi. Alumni can borrow up to three books. A refundable deposit of Php 1,000 per book is required.

The Rizal Library is not merely a repository of books. It’s a dynamic space fostering intellectual curiosity. It provides a place where students engage with knowledge. This beautiful building helps to shape future generations. As you leave this place, remember the wealth of knowledge and the commitment to learning that the Rizal Library represents.
