Ever wondered about a club that boasts both tennis and hockey champions? Welcome to the Bonner Tennis- und Hockey-Verein or BTHV for short. This isn’t just any sports club. It’s a piece of Bonn’s sporting heritage.

Founded in 1919 the BTHV is a fusion of two older clubs the Bonner Hockey Club BHC and the Lawn-Tennis-Verein Bonn. The BHC one of Germany’s oldest hockey clubs played a key role in establishing the German Hockey Federation in 1909. Think about that legacy. This club was there at the very beginning shaping the future of hockey in Germany. The BTHV absorbed this history and built upon it.

Today the BTHV is a vibrant club. It has over 1700 members. Children and adults alike play hockey and tennis. There are 25 hockey teams and 27 tennis teams spanning various skill levels. Imagine the energy the camaraderie the dedication that fills this place. The facilities are impressive. Fifteen outdoor tennis courts a four-court indoor tennis hall a hockey field and a hockey hall. There’s even a clubhouse with a fitness room a bowling alley and a sports shop. This isn’t just a club it’s a community.

The BTHV has seen impressive successes. The men’s hockey team spent a year in the national indoor league in 1998-99. The women’s team currently plays in the first Bundesliga indoor and second Bundesliga outdoor. In tennis the men’s team won the Oberliga championship in 2021-22. Their victories are woven into the very fabric of this club. They are a testament to the hard work dedication and skill of generations of players. The club has hosted major events. The German field hockey championship was held here in 2024. A 2500-seat grandstand was built for the event. The tournament involved the top men’s and women’s teams.
