“Economic pressures” – those were the words whispered on the wind, weren’t they? Here at SpeedZone Dallas, the air itself seems to vibrate with the ghosts of engines roaring and the laughter of a thousand races. This sprawling 12-acre site, a landmark visible from the highway, was once a haven for thrill-seekers and arcade enthusiasts. SpeedZone Dallas first opened its doors in 1997, its go-karts, miniature golf course, and arcade lights beckoning families and competitors alike. For years, the laughter echoed, the karts zipped around the tracks, and the smell of gasoline and popcorn mingled in the air. Sadly, even the most dedicated staff and efforts to improve the infrastructure couldn’t outrun the changing times. In February 2020, SpeedZone Dallas closed its doors, leaving many to wonder what will become of this monument to speed and amusement.
