“Founded by a pioneer.” That is the legacy of Marie Kruses Skole. It stands as a testament to Marie Kruse’s vision for women’s education in Denmark. Let’s step back in time to appreciate the origins and evolution of this esteemed institution.

Marie Kruses Skole began its journey in 1869. It started as a private girls’ school in Frederiksberg. For nearly a century, it remained dedicated to educating young women. In 1965, a significant change occurred when the school opened its doors to boys, becoming a mixed-gender institution. Then in 1971, Marie Kruses Skole relocated to modern facilities in Farum. Farum is a suburb located approximately 20 kilometers north of Copenhagen.

Today, Marie Kruses Skole comprises a primary and secondary school. It also includes after-school care and a gymnasium or high school. The primary school serves students from 1st to 10th grade. The gymnasium caters to students in 11th to 13th grade. The school has a large student body. Over 1,133 students attend Marie Kruses Skole. Of these, 739 are enrolled in the primary school. A dedicated team of 102 teachers guides these students.

Marie Kruses Skole places strong emphasis on academic excellence. The curriculum is designed to provide a high level of education. Project weeks are a regular feature in the primary school. During these weeks, a single subject is explored in depth each day. This approach allows for focused and immersive learning experiences.

Community and a positive learning environment are also top priorities at Marie Kruses Skole. The school strives to create a supportive atmosphere where students can thrive academically and socially. The gymnasium program prepares students for higher education. Its completion is comparable to the German Abitur.

German language instruction is offered at Marie Kruses Skole. It starts as a second foreign language in the 5th grade. Over half of the students choose to study German. The gymnasium program includes trips to Germany. Students also have the opportunity to take a German language proficiency test. The school collaborates with the Goethe-Institut. They regularly organize events together.

Marie Kruses Skole maintains a global outlook. The gymnasium actively develops global partnerships with schools worldwide. Exchange programs are in place with schools in the USA, France, and Germany. The school is open to establishing new exchange opportunities. This provides students with valuable experiences in foreign cultures and educational systems.

Now, as you stand before Marie Kruses Skole, consider its rich history and commitment to education. From its origins as a pioneering girls’ school to its current status as a modern, co-educational institution, it continues to uphold the values of academic excellence, community, and global engagement. Marie Kruses Skole is more than just a school. It is a place where young minds are nurtured, and futures are shaped.
