Hidden in plain sight, the Marina Margarita Ravioli Plaque whispers a story of dedication and reform. Marina Margarita Ravioli, a name synonymous with early childhood education in Argentina, left an indelible mark. Born in Buenos Aires in 1901, Ravioli’s life was a testament to her passion for shaping young minds. The Marina Margarita Ravioli Plaque commemorates this remarkable woman. Right here, we stand before a tribute to a true pioneer. Ravioli graduated from Escuela Normal N° 1 as a Professor of Letters. She furthered her education by studying History of Education and even attended a course led by the renowned Maria Montessori during Montessori’s visit to Argentina in 1929. Ravioli’s career began in 1930 at Escuela Normal N° 1. There, she spearheaded a “Montessori section,” putting her training into practice. By 1937, she was directing the kindergarten annexed to the Teacher Training School at Escuela Normal N° 9. Her leadership continued as she was appointed director of the “Sara C. de Eccleston” Teacher Training School and the attached “Mitre Kindergarten” in 1939. This institution, inaugurated by President Roberto M. Ortíz, was initially housed in the former presidential residence. The Marina Margarita Ravioli Plaque serves as a reminder of her impact. Ravioli wasn’t confined to the classroom. She traveled throughout the country giving lectures and courses, tirelessly advocating for early childhood education. Her work was instrumental in the passing of Law 5096 in 1947. This law made preschool education both mandatory and free in the province of Buenos Aires. The Marina Margarita Ravioli Plaque represents this victory. Ravioli’s influence extended internationally. She represented Argentina at the World Organization for Preschool Education Congress in Chile in 1956. She later presided over the First, Second, and Third Argentine Congresses of Preschool Education. She even presented at the World Assembly of OMEP in Bonn, Germany, in 1971. Marina Margarita Ravioli dedicated her life to education, serving as a teacher for half a century. The Marina Margarita Ravioli Plaque is a small but powerful reminder of her enormous contribution to Argentina’s educational landscape.
