Today, Lower Morden is a peaceful suburb, but it was once a rural farming community. In the 1930s, the suburb grew quickly. A new tube station opened in 1926, making it easier for people to travel to London. In those days, the area was full of fields, but soon, people were building new houses. You can still see some of the original roads that were used by the farmers in Lower Morden. They probably had no idea that their fields would someday be filled with modern houses and shops. Morden Hall Park is still there. The Garth family, who owned the manor for over four centuries, lived at Morden Hall Park until the early 1870s. The park is full of beautiful green spaces and historic buildings, including Morden Hall itself. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. You can wander through meadows and marshland, see the old snuff mill or visit the rose garden, which has over 2,000 roses. The park is a great place to go for a walk, a picnic, or just to get away from the noise of the city. You can see the old manor house, built in the 1770s for distiller John Ewart. It used to be a lovely rural paradise, and although now surrounded by suburbs, Morden Hall Park is still a reminder of what Lower Morden was like a century or two ago.
