Envision a flurry of activity. That’s what you’ll find at the future Rosedale Bus Station. It will soon stand as a vital connection point in Auckland’s ever-expanding public transport network. The Rosedale Bus Station is not yet built. Detailed designs are being finalized. Soon construction partners will be chosen.

The Rosedale Bus Station aims to improve public transport. Walking and cycling options to and from Rosedale will be enhanced. Around 5,200 people work within walking distance of the future station. It is expected to serve over 4,000 people daily.

Funding comes from Auckland Council and Waka Kotahi’s Public Transport Infrastructure program. The Rosedale Bus Station promises better access to work and education. Connectivity for Rosedale residents will be enhanced. This supports economic growth by improving access to jobs and education. The new station will reduce the need for transfers. Journeys will become more efficient and reliable.

In December 2017, the concept design was revealed. Public consultation occurred from January to March 2018. In October 2018, initial funding was confirmed. Resource consent was granted in 2020. This covered the new station and Rosedale Road upgrades. In 2022, the NCI Alliance completed a busway bridge. Some retaining walls for Rosedale Bus Station were also finished. The project was handed over from NCI Alliance to Auckland Transport in 2023. Auckland Transport received the project in 2024. Designs were reviewed and refined.

The station will be located on Arrenway Drive. It will feature a split-level plaza. There will be a drop-off area and mobility parking spaces. The design resembles Smales Farm and Akoranga stations. However, Rosedale Bus Station will not include a park-and-ride facility.

Rosedale Road will be widened between Triton and Tawa Drives. This will create bus lanes. Bus stops will be installed on Rosedale Road. These will serve new feeder buses. Routes are planned from the East Coast Bays area. Walking and cycling paths will be added. Lifts will ensure safe access to the station.

The station will serve around 5,500 people. These people work within walking distance. It will add to upgrades at Hibiscus Coast Station. It will also connect to the recently completed Albany Station extension. These projects aim to boost capacity. This increase is needed for the popular bus routes on the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast.

Transparent materials like glass and steel will be used. This ensures visibility and safety. The station is split into two spaces. The Arrenway Plaza is on the upper level. The Rosedale Road plaza is under the busway. Pedestrian circulation is the primary design consideration. Seating, cycle racks, and bins will be plentiful.

The central commuter access spine links all transport modes. It prioritizes pedestrians and public transport users. The Arrenway Plaza Entrance Building provides shelter. It is a focal point. It includes a lift and stair access to Rosedale Road. Lift and stair towers are functional structures. They are enclosed and integrated with lobby spaces. The design is less complicated for maintenance. It also provides better weather protection. Busway canopies are integrated into the structure. A central gutter system simplifies maintenance. The design follows crime prevention principles. These measures ensure a safe station environment.

The Rosedale Bus Station is more than just a transport hub. It’s a symbol of connectivity. It represents growth and accessibility for the community. As you stand here, envision the future Rosedale Bus Station. Imagine the ease and efficiency it will bring to daily commutes.
