The oldest house in Chicago. Can you believe it? Right here in Norwood Park Township. It’s a testament to the long and rich history of this area. This humble abode, known as the Noble-Seymour-Crippen House, was built in 1833, well before the city itself even started to truly grow. Mark Noble, the first inhabitant of European descent in the area, built this house. It was he who, in 1833, arrived in this part of Cook County and created a home for his family. Though much changed over the years, it’s amazing to think that this very house has witnessed all the transformations of this area. Norwood Park Township was incorporated in 1874. It once was a village. Imagine a vibrant community, full of pioneers, farmers, and those who sought a simpler life away from the bustling city. The founders, with an eye towards the charm of a New England town and its peaceful atmosphere, dubbed this place Norwood. Even now, with the city surrounding it, Norwood Park Township holds onto a sense of calm and peace. Today, the house is a treasured landmark, a reminder of the pioneers who carved out a life in this place, paving the way for the dynamic community we know and love today.
