Did you know that the Auckland Chinese Methodist Church wasn’t always located here on Young Road? This vibrant hub of faith and community began its journey in a very different place.
In 1993 the Auckland Chinese Methodist Church officially opened its doors. It wasn’t in this building though. The first service was held after renting space from St Paul Methodist Church in Remuera. This humble beginning marked the start of a remarkable story of growth and expansion. Think about it a small rented space was the seed that grew into this impressive structure.
The first pastor Reverend Chen Liliang and his wife arrived in 1994. They took on the pastoral work with dedication. Their leadership shaped the early years of the church. This initial team laid the groundwork for the strong community we see today.
From this first location the church grew rapidly. New branches blossomed across New Zealand. Christchurch Dunedin Wellington and many others followed. Each was a testament to the church’s expanding influence and spiritual outreach. This is more than just a building it is the center of a network.
The Auckland Chinese Methodist Church planted churches throughout the country. They established several preaching centers that eventually became thriving churches. This includes the Remuera Chinese Methodist Church and the North Shore Chinese Methodist Church. The vision of expanding the faith extended beyond Auckland’s borders.
Today the Auckland Chinese Methodist Church stands as a symbol of resilience. It represents the enduring spirit of the Chinese community in New Zealand. It’s a place of worship a center for community gatherings and a testament to the power of faith. It’s a beautiful example of how a small beginning can lead to something truly extraordinary. The church continues to serve its community. It provides pastoral care and a welcoming environment for all who enter its doors.
