Metaphorically speaking, Pillnitzer Elbblick is a culinary ship docked on the shores of history. Here at Pillnitzer Elbblick, we stand where stories of art, royalty, and Saxon culinary tradition converge. This isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a place where the past and present waltz together.
Pillnitzer Elbblick enjoys a prime location. It sits next to Pillnitz Castle. The restaurant stretches from the garden down to the Elbe River. From here, you have stunning views of the Pillnitz Elbe Island.
Once, this building housed the children of Elbe boatmen. It was known as the “Schifferkinderheim” or Boatmen’s Children’s Home. Later, it became the “Dampfschiff” restaurant. Katrin Ulrich, the owner, recognized the location’s potential. She saw the unique combination of art, history, and culinary delights it offered.
Katrin and her husband opened Pillnitzer Elbblick in March 2014. They undertook extensive renovations after the previous owners were affected by the 2013 floods. Their vision was simple: create a space where guests could savor regional freshness with heart and soul.
Chef Robert Gersonde brings passion and dedication to the kitchen. His creativity shines through the seasonal menu. Fresh, regional products take center stage. Guests can enjoy Saxon classics. Kartoffelsuppe, Eisbein, and Würzfleisch are all on offer. Smoked matjes fillets and Kikok corn-fed chicken are also available. Vegan and vegetarian options ensure everyone finds something to love.
Pillnitzer Elbblick is more than just a dining spot. It’s an event venue. Easter feasts, Walpurgis Night celebrations and Mother’s Day are celebrated here. The Dampferparade on May 1st is best viewed from the sun terrace. Live music and entertainment, especially with Onkel Sven, fill the air.
The restaurant offers several distinct spaces. The Promenadendeck seats 100 guests. It features large glass windows overlooking the Elbe and the steamboat landing. The Schmugglerdeck, a vaulted cellar room with a fireplace, can host up to 80 people. It’s ideal for special events like weddings. The terrace seats 70 and offers views of the Elbe River. The saying goes, “If you want to see the steamboats turn, you have to go to the Elbblick”. The Dampfergarten, open from May to October, can accommodate up to 200 guests.
For those wanting to extend their stay, Pillnitzer Elbblick has seven guest rooms. These are perfect for guests attending events or exploring the surrounding area. The Pillnitzer vineyards are nearby. They can be reached by foot, bike, or steamboat.
Katrin and Robert’s team welcomes guests with warmth and dedication. They ensure every visit is memorable. The combination of history, location, and heartfelt hospitality makes Pillnitzer Elbblick a treasure. It is a place where you can experience the best of Saxon culture and cuisine.
So, as you stand here, take a moment. Imagine the boatmen’s children who once called this place home. Picture the steamboats gliding along the Elbe. Savor the flavors of Saxony. Embrace the unique blend of history and hospitality that defines Pillnitzer Elbblick.
