On a humid Jakarta afternoon in 1960, a new chapter began at the Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Jakarta. Fakultas Hukum, the Faculty of Law, opened its doors. This marked a significant expansion for the university. It demonstrated a commitment to meeting the growing need for legal professionals in Indonesia. The establishment of Fakultas Hukum wasn’t just about bricks and mortar. It was a response to the nation’s thirst for justice and order. It symbolized the hopes of a newly independent nation. Indonesia sought to build a society founded on the rule of law. Fakultas Hukum joined two existing faculties: the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences (FISIP) and the Faculty of Administration. Together, these three faculties formed a powerful academic triad. They were dedicated to shaping future leaders and thinkers in Indonesia. Initially, the curriculum at Fakultas Hukum followed guidelines set by the Ministry of Education and Culture. This was established in Decree No. 0198/U/1962. A major shift occurred in 1979. The Ministry of Education and Culture introduced the Semester Credit System. This system is detailed in Decree No. 0124/U/1979 and later updated in Decree No. 0212/U/1982. By the 1984/1985 academic year, Fakultas Hukum had fully adopted the Semester Credit System. This brought the faculty in line with modern educational practices. The curriculum has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of Indonesia’s legal landscape. Later revisions incorporated the Ministry of Education and Culture’s Decree No. 0325/U/1994, National Education Decree No. 232/U/2000, and the Ministry of National Education’s Decree No. 045/U/2002 on the Core Curriculum for Higher Education. Fakultas Hukum stands as a testament to the vision of the founders of the Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Jakarta. They envisioned an institution that would empower future generations to contribute to the nation’s development. Today, Fakultas Hukum continues to play a vital role in shaping the legal minds of Indonesia.
