“Sherman Park” is one of the most beautiful parks in Chicago. It’s a 60-acre park in the New City neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago. The park was designed by prominent landscape architects John Charles Olmsted and Frederick Law Olmsted Jr., and Daniel Burnham, a celebrated architect from Chicago. It opened to the public in 1905.

The park has been through many changes over the years. It was designed to enrich the lives of the immigrants and working class in the surrounding neighborhood. The park was named after John B. Sherman, Burnham’s father-in-law, who was also a founder of Chicago’s Union Stock Yards. The park was designed with a meandering waterway surrounding an island of ballfields. This was in response to the park’s low and wet site. This is a good example of how parks can be used to bring communities together. The park was designated a National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
