Imagine 600.000 Martini-Henry rifles. That is how many rifles were stored right here at the Maçka Silahhanesi. Sultan Abdülaziz ordered the construction between 1873 and 1875. It was for the infantry’s newly imported arms from America.

Notice the main facade. It faces Maçka Street. The monumental gate emphasizes the center. A balcony sits above. There are also distinctive windows on the upper floor. The towers flanking the gate reinforce this emphasis. The facade is quite impressive.
The building has three stories. It was later used by the Gendarmerie Command. After the Republic, it housed various schools. These included transport, artillery, engineering, and gendarmerie schools.
